Iggy the Iguana Tie Dyed No Tongue

The tie-dyed Iggy came first and had the shortest run of the four. He arrived on 31 December 1997 and was retired on 1 October 1998, while the three later versions carried on into 1999. He has no tongue, and his swing tag is found attached either at the spine or at the foot.

He is also the only Iggy made across the pellet changeover, so tie-dyed examples turn up with PVC pellets and with PE pellets. Neither is scarce enough to change what he sells for.

This is the version at the centre of the Iggy and Rainbow mix-up. Ty's production teams appear to have confused iguanas with chameleons, and the result was Iggy and Rainbow, style 4037, built with each other's look. The tie-dyed fabric appears under both names, which is why a tie-dyed Iggy is so often listed as a mislabelled Rainbow. It was no mislabel. Both were made that way deliberately at the time, so this is better understood as a flaw in the concept than as a factory error.

Ty produced every version of Iggy in very large numbers, so none of them is likely to become rare whatever a listing claims. The one documented oddity here is a tie-dyed Iggy wearing a Quackers tush tag.
