Lucky the Ladybug with 21 spots is the middle of three versions Ty made under style 4040, and the one with printed spots. She replaced the original seven-spot Lucky on 27 February 1996, the day that version retired, and was herself retired in 1997. She carries a fourth generation swing tag and a third generation tush tag, the narrowest tag range of the three.

That narrow range is worth remembering, because the 21-spot is the version counterfeits target. A genuine one pairs a fourth generation swing tag with a third generation tush tag and nothing else, so any other combination on a printed-spot Lucky is the first thing to question.

Oddities documented across the 21 and 11 spot versions include a Lucky with 11 spots on one side and 21 on the other, one with spots on only one side, and one with seven legs.

The 21 and 11 spot versions share the poem about the lotto. The original seven-spot Lucky, which ran from June 1994, had no poem inside the swing tag at all.
