Bongo the Monkey Tan Tail

Bongo the Monkey (Tan Tail) is the longer-running of Ty's two tail colors for this character. He was in production for close to three and a half years, from 3 June 1995 to 31 December 1998, while the brown-tailed version was retired after about a year.

This is also the version that carries the sticker-over-tag oddity from Bongo's renaming. He started out as Nana, and Ty Warner renamed him Bongo because he plays the bongos. Ty still had unused Nana swing tags in stock when the name changed, so during the changeover he covered the printed name with a Bongo sticker rather than waste the tags. He is made from the same fabric as Bessie, Pouch, Sly and Tusk.

Bongo also went to two basketball giveaways in 1998: 5,000 at a Cleveland Cavaliers game against the Los Angeles Clippers that April, and 3,000 at a WNBA game between the Charlotte Sting and Washington Mystics that July.

Documented oddities on this version include a tailless Bongo, plus examples wearing a Fetch tush tag or a Mystic tush tag instead of his own.
