Individually sealed baggie inside the Happy Meal box. Four Happy Meal cartons are documented, two for Hot Wheels and two for the paired Barbie line.

McDonald's own archivist dates Hot Wheels entering the Happy Meal to 1991, and this is that promotion: eight cars built from four castings, each offered in two colourways. The four castings are the '55 Chevy, the '63 split-window Corvette, the '57 T-Bird and the Camaro Z-28.

The promotion ran opposite a Barbie line, which is why bag numbering in this era frequently runs one to eight within a sixteen-toy split assortment.

Identification notes

Do not confuse this with Mattel's retail California Custom Series or Super California Customs of the same period. The retail line is twelve models and shares no castings at all with these eight; the name collision is the trap. Several specification fields are deliberately empty on the individual records because no source states them: body material, scale, base codes and the verbatim molded base text have never been documented from physical examination, and the region is asserted rather than sourced, which matters because the 1988 and 1990 McDonald's die-cast promotions were regionally restricted.
