The second Changeables programme is the best documented of the three. Eight food items transform into named robots, released two at a time across four weeks, and the set codes 1a through 4b give every figure a stable identifier that survives the disagreements over spelling.

Transformations are markedly more varied than the 1987 wave. The Krypto Cup butterflies open, the Fry Bot has an articulated jaw, and collectors single out the Fry Force and Krypto Cup as genuinely difficult multi-step conversions.

Identification notes

These figures are molded with a 1988 copyright date although the promotion ran in 1989, which is why many listings date them 1988. Use the set code and the robot name rather than the mold date. Several robot names have competing spellings in circulation and are recorded here with their variants rather than silently standardised. The under-3 alternative was a non-transforming rotating cube featuring Grimace, Birdie, CosMc! and Hamburglar.
