Lips the Fish

Lips is a fish that was originally available only to order by attendees at the 1999 Gift Show, before wider release. One documented Lips wears a Tiny tush tag, a factory mix-up rather than a sign of tampering.

Lips the Fish was bag number 1 in the Pet Pals group of the 2000 McDonald's Teenie Beanie Babies promotion, the largest and most complicated of the four U.S. Teenie runs. That year spread 18 numbered Happy Meal bags across five categories, Pet Pals, Garden Bunch, At the Zoo, Under the Sea and Top Secret, over nearly five months from June to November 2000, alongside several unnumbered special groups sold separately. Like the rest of the promotion, Lips went out in the tens of millions, and a sealed bag by itself does not make one valuable.
