Fetcher the Labrador

Fetcher's style number is often printed as 4289 in value guides. The number Ty actually assigned him, and the number stamped on the back of his own swing tag, is 4298. The error seems to have started when a guide published after 2000 transposed the last two digits, and later guides carried the mistake forward.

That misprint produced a name that never appears on any Fetcher tag: Fletcher. Collectors have asked about a Beanie Baby by that name, and listings using it do appear on eBay. In every documented case, though, the swing tag and tush tag both read Fetcher, on a dog identical to Fetcher throughout. Ty's own retailer catalogs from 1999 through 2001 make no mention of a Fletcher at all, so a listing under that name is simply Fetcher, mislabelled.
