Cubbie the Bear

Cubbie is one of the Original 9 Beanie Babies and was first sold as Brownie. The two names belong to the same bear. Without a swing tag reading Brownie, there is no way to tell a first generation Brownie from a first generation Cubbie, so the swing tag is the only thing that separates them.

He was the Chicago Cubs' bear. The Cubs gave away 10,000 at their game against the San Francisco Giants on 18 May 1997 and another 10,000 against the New York Mets on 6 September 1997. At the club's first fan convention on 16 January 1998, 100 were raffled off. At the second convention on 15 January 1999, a year after his retirement, he was given to attendees.

Documented oddities are a Cubbie without a nose and Cubbies wearing tush tags for Blackie, Tuffy and Weenie. The wrong-name tags are a factory swap. The missing nose is the one to check on a bear that looks a little plain in the face.
