Chip the Cat

Chip is a calico cat pieced together from more than 20 separate fabric pieces, which made her one of the most difficult Beanie Babies to produce. Getting her black, gold, brown and white patches to line up correctly slowed the line down in a way a single-color cat never did.

A swing tag misprint exists with her birth month spelled 'Jenuary' instead of January, and documented examples turn up wearing tush tags meant for Baldy, Cubbie, Dotty, Legs, Snip, Snowball, Stinky and Strut. Chip was also given away at an Atlanta Braves vs. San Francisco Giants baseball game in August 1998, 12,000 of them in a single day.

Chip the Cat was bag number 12 in McDonald's 1999 Teenie Beanie promotion, the last of twelve numbered animals distributed from May 21 to June 3, 1999. It came in a printed plastic bag like the rest of the numbered set, and enough were made that a sealed bag alone does not create value.
