Chilly the Polar Bear

Chilly is the polar bear, and he is the same body as Peking without any of the black markings. He was one of the 1994 releases, retired at the start of 1996, and has no poem.

His white fabric is the one Ty used on Flip, Gracie, Magic, Peking and Spot. He is found with first, second and third generation swing tags and only the first generation tush tag.

Chilly has been counterfeited, and the fabric is where fakes fail. A counterfeit coat looks dirty, with a sooty cast as if the bear had been played with, and the fabric is coarse with an overly long nap.

The swing tag on a counterfeit is a shiny reddish orange, where a genuine one is fully red. Inside, the white is brighter than it should be. On the tush tag, TY INC on a fake is followed by two full stops instead of a full stop and a comma.

Chilly the Polar Bear was one of the Legends group in the 2000 McDonald's Teenie Beanie Babies promotion, a set of older, established Beanie Babies characters. The group was sold in its own presentation, rather than one of the 18 numbered Happy Meal bags. Chilly's Teenie carries McDonald's branded tags rather than Ty's heart tag, and like the rest of the 2000 set, it was produced in large numbers, so a sealed example alone does not create much value.
