Baldy the Eagle

Baldy is a bald eagle who spent just under a year in production, from May 1997 to May 1998. That short run limits him to fourth and fifth generation swing tags, so an earlier swing tag is the first thing to question.

He was a stadium giveaway twice, both times in lots of 5,000. The Philadelphia 76ers handed him out at a game against the Golden State Warriors. The Washington Capitals gave him out at their hockey game against the San Jose Sharks on 20 February 1999, which was nine months after his retirement.

Every oddity documented on Baldy is a tush tag belonging to someone else. Seven are recorded: Dotty, Floppity, Hippity, Prance, Tuffy, Weenie and Zip. These left the factory that way. A wrong-name tag on an eagle is a curiosity, and it is neither a fault nor evidence that the tag was replaced.
